Hull Citadel Band visit to Hinckley

RWB_8377The weekend of October 19 – 20, Hull Citadel Band had the privilege to make their first visit to Hinckley Temple Corps, Leicester. After a wonderful welcome tea the band presented a programme to a large crowd from the corps as well as visitors from other corps in the area.

HCB’s programme included a mix of old and new, lively and reflective Salvation Army music. From a wonderful song arrangement, Such Love to the classic  March On the King’s Highway. One could argue that there was something for everyone.

The soloists did not disappoint. Graham Mercer played the beautiful solo ” Don’t doubt him now”. Major Stuart Barker presented The Swiss Melody. After the interval, Chris Dixon played the “The Savoiur’s Name” by Erik Syilfverberg. The band’s major work for the evening was “on the Road” by Howard Davies. The band performance of The Salvation Army Patrol and Shine on us by were exciting and it was well received by the congregation. Other highlights was the band’s performance of Wonderful Healer by Dean Goffin and A suite of Thanksgiving by Ralph Pearce.

On Sunday morning, the band participated in worship which was led by bandsman Stuart Sorrie. The weekend concluded with an afternoon programme. William Broughton’s “Roll Call” got the afternoon programme off to a lively start. Two solos were presented by Clive Boyes and Mike Kerridge. Graham Mercer and Adrain Dunn (cornet duet) presented “The Happy Warriors”. The audience were presented again with a variety of styles. To conclude a reflection time by Major Stuart, the band played Bramwell Coles’ “The Hill of Calvary”. The band would like to thank our friend from Hinckley Temple for organising this memorable weekend.
